How to achieve good health and wellbeing!
Exercise is one of the keys to enhancing health & wellbeing
Yoga, Tai Chi, and meditation can help tremendously, when you feel stressed out or may be reaching ‘burn-out’. If you are working too many hours, feel burdened by personal responsibilities or find yourself in a situation you feel is impossible to get out of. Joining a yoga or tai chi class may be the answer, in helping you to unwind and relax.
Also, participating in some form of regular physical activity will certainly help to make you feel better, improve your body shape, maintain a healthy weight and get a good night’s sleep.
Too often, people use the excuse of ‘lack of time’ for choosing not to exercise. Yet, would you not agree, that exercising regularly is imperative for overall improved health and wellbeing?
It is so easy to find yourself in a perpetual negative cycle of limiting behaviour, when you allow work to take over your life. Sometimes people bury themselves in work as a way of escapism – what do I mean by this? Well, if you are too scared to face up to any emotional problems or physical ailments that won’t go away e.g. regular headaches, colds, or muscular aches and pains, then it will be inevitable that one day, your body may choose to give up altogether. This is called a ‘breakdown’, but I am sure you have no intention of allowing it to get that far. You may not have any say in the matter!
So, where can you start and what can you do to enhance health and wellbeing? Have you considered meditation? When your mind is full of clutter, then stress in the body increases because you can get into a state of not knowing whether you are coming or going. Try this for a week and see how you feel:-
Each morning, if you can make the effort to get out of bed 20 minutes earlier, make yourself comfortable in an easy chair and just listen to the sound of your breathing. Whether you close your eyes or leave them open does not matter. It is important that you sit in silence and simply be with yourself for 15 minutes. Any thoughts that choose to enter your head, simply allow them to pass, like clouds in a windy sky.
Place your hand on your heart and just be aware of the rhythm of your heart beat. Then become aware of the sounds that surround you and the smells. Just enjoy being still and in the moment. You will be amazed at how much calmer you feel and more ready to face the rest of your day.
I can promise you that the more you practice this, the more you will want to take time out to do it. Practicing meditation before bedtime also promotes a good night's sleep. The point is, when you start to give your brain and mind a rest, you start to develop clarity and perspective on any given situation you are now facing. Also, giving the brain a rest helps you to think more clearly and make decisions much more easily, so why not try it? Let me know how you get on, I would be interested to hear about your experience.

As for exercise, simply start doing something active that gives you pleasure. That maybe dancing, walking, cycling. There are lots of different ways to exercise, only you know what you are capable of right now and what is best for you.
If the thought of not having anyone to exercise with puts you off, then call a friend, or get a buddy on board. You may even consider hiring a personal fitness trainer? http://www.jsrcorefitness.co.uk. Whatever you choose to do, once you take the plunge, you will not look back. Remember, if you want to improve health and well being, then 30 minutes physical activity on 5 days a week, is the government recommendation for improved health, in adults. For kids, it’s one hour’s physical activity on 7 days a week.
Good luck in your journey to improved health and wellness, you owe it to yourself and your body.
